The Brendan Shanahan era ended for the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday when the team announced that the long-time president’s contract will be allowed to expire next month.

Shanahan served as president of the Maple Leafs for 11 seasons, overseeing a major transformation of the organization on and off the ice. But while Toronto experienced consistent regular-season success, it was never able to break through in the playoffs.
Now that Shanahan is out, the Maple Leafs have some big decisions to make with the roster, including with Mitch Marner and John Tavares, who are both set to become unrestricted free agents.
